Engineering Staffing with Dedicated Recruiters

Engineering infrastructure depends on more than drawings and software. It also relies on the licensed professionals who carry submittals, respond to review comments and take responsibility for signed and sealed construction documents. When critical roles remain unfilled, the effects can extend across project schedules, review cycles, client commitments and the workload of the engineers who remain.

Equiliem supports the workforce behind North America’s critical engineering infrastructure through specialized engineering staffing and workforce solutions. We partner with design firms, owners, utilities and contractors to strengthen production continuity by connecting them with professionals whose experience and, where applicable, licensure align with the disciplines they serve.

Our evaluation process goes beyond resumes alone. We assess each candidate’s applicable licensure, production experience, software fluency and alignment with the responsibilities of the role. When a position requires professional licensure or certification, we review the available credential information and coordinate any client-specific qualification requirements.

Contract Staffing

Whether responding to a program ramp or a backlog that has outgrown the team, Equiliem provides contract engineers and designers for a single phase or the life of a project. Our engineering staffing scales with the work and adjusts as projects move from design through delivery.

Direct Hire Recruiting

For long-term hiring needs, we help firms identify engineers, designers and technical leads whose licensure, discipline experience and software fluency align with the clients you serve. A specialized engineering recruiter evaluates candidates against the technical demands of the role.

Executive Search

Chief engineers and directors of engineering are rarely between roles, and most are too busy running someone else's program to pay attention to job boards. Our engineering executive search identifies and engages them directly with outreach tailored to pique their interest. Effective engineering headhunters do more than identify qualified names. Our team builds relationships across disciplines and career stages, helping us engage experienced engineering leaders who may not be actively considering a move.

Why trust Equiliem with your engineering roles

Our screening is tailored to the role and assignment: we screen for relevant experience and qualifications, review available documentation, and coordinate applicable client-specific credentialing, screening and onboarding requirements. Depending on the role, that may include PE licensure, EIT status, degrees, OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 course completion and drug screening for field assignments, site badging, background checks and employment eligibility verification.

See what our engineering clients say about us

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

We won three projects in the same quarter and I had exactly zero bench to put on them. Equiliem had two contract designers working within two weeks and a licensed engineer not long after, and honestly that quarter would have buried us otherwise. I keep waiting for the catch and there hasn't been one.
Carl B., Engineering Manager at a consulting firm
What sold me is the license paperwork was already sorted. Every PE that Equiliem has sent us came with their licensure details in the file before day one, which is a thing I used to spend whole afternoons chasing. Our biggest client audits its subs' staffing files, and ours have come back clean every time since.
Renee W., HR Director at an engineering firm
Engineers can look identical on paper and be completely different in a design meeting, that's just the truth of it. The project engineer Equiliem placed got our markup standards in about a week and the senior guys actually trust his numbers, which took me years to earn when I started. Two years on he's still here.
Miguel A., Principal at a design firm
We've used Equiliem across three offices now and it's the same experience in every one. The engineers show up when they said, the paperwork is done, and nobody calls me to sort anything out. Boring in the best possible way, which after twenty years of staffing surprises is all I want.

Equiliem is there when you need us

For more than 30 years, Equiliem has helped organizations build and strengthen the workforce behind North America’s critical infrastructure, and engineering has always been central to that work. As a family-owned company, we support short- and long-term hiring across all levels, from a drafter covering a six-week crunch to a chief engineer, with applicable screening coordinated for the assignment and continued engagement afterward.

We've completed searches for a variety of engineering roles

Director of Engineering

A municipal water utility lost its director of engineering four months before a consent-decree deadline on its collection system program. We ran a confidential search and closed it in 34 days with a licensed PE who had delivered a similar program two states over. The compliance milestones held, and the utility never had to ask the regulator for an extension, which was the outcome everyone had been bracing for.

Substation Engineer

A transmission and distribution firm won a package of six substation upgrades and needed two physical design engineers before the 30% models were due. We placed both within three weeks, one contract and one direct placement, from engineers we had worked with on earlier programs. The 30% submittal went out on schedule, and the contract engineer stayed on through energization.

Project Engineer, Design-Build

A design-build contractor needed a project engineer for a parking structure that had already broken ground, which is the hardest moment to bring someone in. We had a candidate on site in nine days with the concrete experience the job called for. RFIs stopped stacking up within the first month, and the superintendent told us the deck pours never missed a cycle after that.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

A food manufacturer was expanding a plant with one mechanical engineer carrying the utility design for the entire addition. We recruited a senior engineer in 21 days who took over the steam and chilled water scope. The design caught up to the construction schedule within two months, and the engineer we placed is now the plant's lead on the next expansion.

Frequently asked questions about engineering recruiting

For Employers

Depends on the seat. A drafter or designer can be working inside two weeks. A degreed engineer with the right project history usually runs two to three weeks, and a licensed PE in a thin specialty three to five. We will tell you which one you have on the first call.
